Wish you are doing well. I guess Nature is doing a stage show during
this quarter. Yesterday ( 20th July 2009 ) was celebrated as a Moon's
day. Tomorrow, there is a solar eclipse which comes once in hundred
years. Whatever happens, Nature goes as per the schedule.
Reading habit comes only when you have an inquisitiveness to know
more information and also cherish discovering new things. Know all
attitude stops reading habit. These days, time is a major constraint
factor. If you are able to plan and continue to read, you enjoy learning
more.
July Letter brings you the story of passionate dancer Michael Jackson.
How poaching works when you take people from competitors is something
new, you may love reading it. I wish you find time to read all the
articles. Feel free to share your valuable feedback and suggestions.
Wish you great moments every day in life.

Competitors men are Cost or Help ?

Poaching
is not happening now due to the recession. However, the liking for recruiting
candidate from competitors will not reduce. You will be surprised to
know that it is not always a great idea to recruit from competitors.
Here are few myths why you should not search for competitors candidate:-
Myth 1 Prior Experienced Candidates Need no
Training.
One of the reasons for Recruiting from competitors is due to laziness
and the inability to train. The lack of drive to scout for and select
the right talent leads organisations into believing that recruiting
experienced hands from one's competitors will give them ready-made salespersons.
But the truth is that when someone comes on board, he needs to be trained
in 'the organisation's way of selling', no matter where he worked before,
and for how long. One of our clients is struggling to form a team just
because they recruited people from competitors. There is no synchronisation
between the newly joined candidate expectation and the company mission.
Myth
2 - They will bring more clients
Given
the 'rolling stones' trend, no one raises an eyebrow when people jump
jobs. In fact, employees with 3-5 years of tenures have become an oddity!
Even customers understand that employee loyalty has a changed definition
these days. Therefore, assuming they will follow their 'trusted advisor
and friend' is unrealistic. As marketing observations go, customers
once hooked to a brand or product, are likely to remain more loyal to
it than a salesperson to his organisation! Moreover, someone who could
bring in his clientele could also take them away when he leaves the
organisation.
Myth
3 - Big Brand Executives are Capable
This
only works when both enterprises are identical in their operations.
And even if they do, a fact worth considering is that no two organisations
have analogous sales cultures. Therefore, the assumption that someone
who has done a similar job well in a bigger organisation will also be
successful in a smaller set up is an assumption. It may not be correct
all the time. A synergistic match between your company and the candidate
is needed to put together a long-lasting sales marriage." Another incorrect
assumption is that salespeople will carry forward their passion into
the new job. While passionate salespeople are a driving force, those
who jump jobs frequently do not remember what to be passionate about!
Competent Sales People do not move frequently.
The above beliefs are common in most of the Indian Organisations.
This can be re-looked at for an effective recruitment process. Definitely,
Right Recruitment adds lot of value to business.

Legs that Danced for the World
Founder
of Moon-Walk has left the earth to see the real moon. Michael Jackson
( M J ) passed away suddenly on June 25th, 2009. More than 12 people
have committed suicide on hearing about his death. Los Angeles State
spent more than 1.5 million for his memorial service. His music albums
have sold five times higher than before. It is quite amazing to see
that he had attracted such huge number of audience all over the world
through his dance and miraculous voice.
Great
people are appreciated more after death. It has become true in MJ
case too. In the last decade he was appearing more for bad news in
the media than for the entertainment news. Most awaited show in Britain
was the one last good news we heard, but before the event he passed
away. During the memorial service, his daughter cried and said "he
was the best dad always, I will miss him". It is definitely true that
he really loved children and also been as a child throughout his life.
Once a fan told Beethoven that "I will give rest of my life for your
music". The great musician Beethoven politely replied I did". So MJ,
he sacrificed his entire life to dance and the career from the age
of five. His legs at times appear like elastic. He is too fast in
his moves and amazing in his voice.
MJ
was born on August 29, 1958. MJ was called a "King of Pop", an American
recording artist, widely regarded as one of the greatest entertainers
of modern times. Michael began his musical career at the age of 5
as the lead singer of the Jackson 5 which was formed in 1964. It was
a family group formed by his father. Though Michael remained a member
of the group until 1984, he began recording under his own name in
1971. His album Off the Wall (1979) sold millions; his next solo album,
Thriller (1982), sold more than 40 million copies, becoming the best-selling
album in history.
The
emerging format of the music video was an important aspect of Jackson's
work; his videos for "Beat It" and "Billie Jean" featured his highly
influential dancing style (notably his trademark "moonwalk"). He later
released the albums Bad (1987), Dangerous (1991), and History (1995).
Despite his many efforts to speak out on social issues, Jackson's
eccentric, secluded lifestyle stirred controversy in the early 1990s.
His reputation was seriously damaged in 1993 when he was accused of
child molestation by a 13-year-old boy; a civil suit was settled out
of court. In 2003 Jackson was arrested on charges of child molestation;
he was acquitted in 2005.
Prior
to his death, Jackson was scheduled to perform 50 sell out concerts
to over one million people, at London's O2 arena. The concerts would
have commenced on July 13, 2009 and finish on March 6, 2010. His legs
that danced have rested now. He did not like his true appearance and
he aimed to change that frequently through plastic surgery and so
no. It definitely did not stay long and also become one of the causes
for his death. He did not realize that his natural beauty is much
greater than the colour he aspired to become. It is a great loss to
millions of his fans all around the world. Definitely MJ is a great
human being, otherwise he wouldn't have received Guinness award for
donating more for poor people.

Work is Boring, What to do?

Most
of the morning starts with a Question, what is that I am going to do today.
At the end of the day, people go to bed without much enthusiasm and sense
of achievement. As we all know, everyone feels laid back and bored at
one or many points of work. What is this and why does this happen? We
could broadly say this as a feeling of Inertia, which is a inaction and
not wanting to work or act.
Main Reason for this problem is Goal Less life or organisation. You observe
people who have a clear goals at work, they will be always busy doing
the right work at right time. Same applied to the focused organisation
too. Lack of Goal and Role Clarity is the key reason for having Inertia.
When one knows what to do for the next hour, do not lay back and be not
concerned about what is happening around.
How to become involved in what you do and avoid Inertia:-
1. Discover Goals
Know what is that you need to do at his point in time. Invest about 20
minutes each day morning for your self to understand that what you need
to do for the day and for the life too. This simple introspection exercise
enable your energy and potential to a very taller heights and reinforce
your foundation for great success. Sense of worthlessness come to people
only when they are not aware of what they need or want in life. Seek colleague
advise and suggestion to understand the goals that you can set for your
job. Organisation can also do wonders and high performance if they learn
to avoid Inertia. Formulate and ensure that each individual are aware
about what is expected out of them.
2. Believe in your Self than the fears
Remember, No matter who you are, everyone suffers from inertia sometimes.
Never fear for any matter whatsoever. Fear only drains human potential
when it goes beyond a point. In spite of fear, gain and raise your confidence
level by looking at what you have. Do the assigned or the planned tasks
before inertia takes over you. Take control of the tasks that require
immediate attention. Make up your mind to focus on Priorities. Those tasks
you're trying to avoid won't go away so you may as well face them now.
3. Be Simply Positive
People who are dead has no problems, People are growing will always have
problems. Remember, these problems will only shape up their life and take
them to higher level of growth. Hence, gaining positive eye-sight towards
life is very essential. Being Positive is a Great Solution for many problems.
It helps you to see opportunity from every problem. Only by turning around
negative words and actions to positive words and actions will you cure
inertia. No matter what, you need to take personal control of the tasks
whether at home or workplace.
4. Discover the Negative Behaviours
Try to work out why you actually lack motivation and ask yourself what
you gain from the inertia: probably nothing, so now is the time to change
your inertia from right now. To be honest, you are the one preventing
yourself moving forward towards your goals. Especially the false beliefs
that you develop about your self or sorroundings can be completed removed.
Start believing other people and the situation. Remove all negatives symptoms
like hatred towards people, becoming addict to any non-healthy behaviours,
start being aloof from the community, etc.
Remember, when you say your reasons out loud you own them and they become
real. Honesty is the best policy and in order to resolve inertia in your
life you need to be honest and avoid the trap of negative self talk.
5. When you own, you leave.
The first step towards overcoming inertia is to admit that you have a
problem and try to determine its cause. It could be that you're scared
you'll fail; it could even be that you're afraid you'll succeed. There
is always a reason for inertia if you're honest with yourself.
Remember, when you say your reasons out loud you own them and they become
real. Honesty is the best policy and in order to resolve inertia in your
life you need to be honest and avoid the trap of negative self talk.
People who have simple goals in life never have time to rest or worry.

Beauty or Danger

Solar
Eclipse - It's when the new moon gets between Earth and Sun, and covers
the solar disc completely. This can happen only during a new moon, when
the sun and moon are in conjunction as witnessed from earth. Minimum
two and maximum five solar eclipses can occur in a year.
A total solar eclipse is easily the most spectacular celestial event
you can view from Earth. The astrologers and astronomers believe the
total solar eclipse to be an once-in-a-lifetime experience, and this
one being the longest solar eclipse is definitely going to be a reason
of curiosity. An eerie darkness descends during totality, birds fall
silent and stars peer out in day time.
Solar Eclipse On July 22, 2009 is truly special. It's the longest total
eclipse this century and the longest seen in India since Aug 18, 1868.
The next big total eclipse in the country takes place on Jun 3, 2114.
Between then and now, there's only 1 total eclipse, on March 20, 2034,
and it would just be visible in J&K. The line of totality traverses
a distance of over 3,000 km.
The solar eclipse in Kanpur will be visible at 95.38 per cent. It will
start at 5.32 am and last up to 7.26 am and is likely to peak at 6.26
am. The solar eclipse will commence even before sunrise and so the rising
Sun itself will be eclipsed.
The partial eclipse will be visible from all over India. The Total Solar
Eclipse is visible in Patna, Bhopal, Indore, Gaya, Varanasi, Bhavnagar,
Darjeeling, Gangtok, Sibsagar, Surat, Ujjain and Vadodara. The time
is early morning from 05:30 AM to 07:30 in most regions.
Timings differ slightly. The maximum duration of totality for the Pacific
Ocean is 6.39 minutes, for China about six minutes. For Kanpur region,
the duration would be more than two minutes.
There have been several popular beliefs attached with the eclipse and
have been passed down the generations such as:
-
Pregnant
women are not supposed to do any work with a needle, knife or scissors
(basically any sharp object) because of the risk of physical mutations
in their baby.
-
Pregnant women
are advised not to go outside during the eclipse to avoid having
a blind baby or one with a cleft lip.
-
It is also suggested
that food cooked before the eclipse should be thrown out afterward
as it becomes impure.
-
Eating is generally
not allowed during an eclipse for the same reasons of impurity

In the landfill, food scraps are a wasted resource. Food scraps
and food soiled paper break down into compost, a soil amendment
that enriches soil and improves plant health. Composting all
organics instead of sending materials to the landfill reduces
waste and provides a rich resource to the county.

Tips for Laptop Users
1
Regularly back up your files.
Any file saved to your file server account (Explore, Learn, Reflect, or
Discover) will be backed up daily by Computing Services. However, backing
up files on your laptop is your responsibility. With a laptop, you are
not only at risk for losing work due to a hard drive failure, but also
at risk for losing all your files due to loss or theft. We purchase insurance
for all new laptops, but this will only help replace your laptop; your
files will be gone permanently. This can be devastating if your laptop
is the only place you're storing your dissertation, a grant proposal,
your tax records, or any other personal or confidential files.
2 Don't save your passwords anywhere on your laptop.
Most e-mail and dial-up software allow users to save their passwords.
Although this makes using your laptop convenient and easy, if your laptop
is lost or stolen, complete strangers will have total access to your e-mail
messages and Internet access.
3 Be careful when placing your laptop on an airport security conveyor
belt.
The most common laptop theft scam involves two people working together
to steal your laptop directly from the security conveyer belt. After spotting
your laptop carrying case, they get in line for the metal detector directly
in front of you. The first thief walks through the security check with
no problem. The second thief has a great deal of trouble, emptying pockets
and checking for jewellery
several times, which distracts you and the security personnel. At this
point, you may have already placed your luggage on the conveyor belt.
This allows the first thief to walk away with your laptop, while the second
prevents you from walking through the metal detector. To prevent this
from happening to you, wait until the last possible moment to put your
laptop on the conveyor belt to assure you will be the only person able
to pick it up at the other end.
4 Label your laptop and all accessories.
Many people at LRDC have identical laptops. Label or tape your business
card to the top of your laptop and to all of your laptop accessories to
help prevent someone from accidentally taking your equipment.
5 Always use a laptop carrying case.
In addition to being designed to carry all your laptop accessories, laptop
carrying cases are designed to provide protection. Newer laptops are more
robust, but it's still easy to crack the screen. Replacement screens can
cost almost as much as the laptop itself and are not covered by warranties
or insurance. Also, repair time will typically be 1-2 weeks.
6 Be careful when plugging your laptop into a phone jack or network
port.
The modem and 10BaseT connections on your laptop look similar. A 10BaseT
cable allows you to attach to a local area network. It is wider than a
phone line and will not fit into your modem. However, a phone line will
easily fit into a 10BaseT connection. This of course will not work and
if the phone rings while you have it plugged in, the voltage will be enough
to potentially cause severe damage to your laptop. Also, when traveling
to other sites, make sure you use an analog line. Digital lines carry
more electricity than analog lines and can also irreparably damage your
modem.
7 Never allow other people to use your laptop.
When traveling to another site, it can be very tempting to allow someone
to make changes to your network settings in order to allow you to connect
to their local area network. This can result in them accidentally wiping
out your current dial-up and LRDC network settings. Allowing your children
to use your laptop also puts you at risk. If they install programs-especially
games, shareware, and screen-savers-you are at risk for software incompatibilities,
which can result in computer crashes. This also puts you at an increased
risk for computer viruses. Either situation can result in a full-days
repair.

Why Become Organic? - Benefits of organic food
Extolling
the virtues of organic food has largely been through 'word -of
-mouth', although attempts have been made by the media and by
the proponents or advocates of organic food.
There are compelling reasons to become an organic food convert.
Most health experts claim that organic food is natural and pure,
highly nutritious, has a superior taste and is entirely safe.
It lays claim to several health benefits, as it has copious amounts
vitamin C that the conventional food cannot lay claim to. Raw
organic food is also known to cleanse the blood stream by eliminating
toxic wastes. Besides, organic food farming is known to be entirely
environment friendly.
The short- term benefits of organic food include the following:
-
Local
wildlife is not harmed.
-
The ground
water and soil is not contaminated.
-
The diversity
of the ecosystem is preserved
-
Less energy
is consumed during farming
-
Waste production is minimized.
-
The
environment is free from pollution.
The
long- term effects of soil contamination are likely to be disastrous
to the future generations. Today's mantra of - 'destroy all, consume
all' means there is unlikely to be a living planet, as we have known
it for millions of years. The large-scale production and usage of organic
food will definitely go a long way in sustaining and preserving the
ecological balance of our bio-system.
So let's consume Organic food as it is "Environment- friendly, Farmer-
friendly & also Consumer- friendly"
